An Irish Heritage

The name Linn is more celtic than Irish and is rumored to derive from the Scotch-Irish word Glynne, meaning a small pool or lake probably located at the higher elevations.

Andrew Linn, Sr. and his wife Martha Linn came to the United States in 1792. Raised in the County of Derry, Cumber Parish, Northern Ireland, they immegrated shortly after their marriage and came to Bald Eagle Valley in 1797 according to Martha. Their residence during the five precedding years is not known.

In 1815 a total of 131 acres and 98 perches was sold to Andrew Linn for $525.45. This land was already occupied by Andrew Linn, but when he began occupying it is not known. Contents

Descendants of Andrew Linn Hold First Annual Reunion

In July of 1997, the Linn family held its first annual reunion. We had about 30 people gathered and some came from as far away as Indiana! Great fun was had, eating, swimming, swapping stories and so on. The facilities at Bald Eagle State Park provided enjoyment to all ages. Though the various branches of the family have put down roots all over the country, it was fascinating to find those things we had in common. Contents

Descendants of Andrew Linn To Hold Second Annual Reunion

Take note and join the family for the second reunion. It will be held July 25th in Bald Eagle State Park, Howard Twp., Penn. The festivities begin at 12:00 Noon under Pavillion number 2. Contents

We would like to introduce Charles Cyrus Linn, Jr.: a resident of Groveland, California. He was born May 23, 1921 in Grand Junction, Mesa Co., Colorado to Charles Cyrus Linn, Sr. and Alta Dolly Estes Crawford Linn. On the first of November 1942 he married his wife of 55 years, Jeanne Norene Shaw Linn. After retiring from his profession of aircraft machinist, the couple moved to their present home in Groveland. Their home, which he built largely with his own hands, is located on an airport and has allowed Charles Jr. to continue pursuing his interest in aircraft. He has either constructed or rebuilt most of the planes in his hanger. Four children were born to Charles Jr. and Jeanne, and to date, they have four grandchildren. Contents

The Good Race

The Green Flag fell for two new members of the family. Starting on the inside of the front row born November 24, 1997 it was Rolonzo Lamar James (his maternal grandmother is a Linn) and starting on the outside of the front row born January 11, 1998 it was Hannah Elizabeth Brooks (her maternal grandmother is a Linn). Respectively, the parents of our front row starters are Alisha Khan & Rolonzo Lamar James and George & Naomi Brooks. Congratulations to the parents and best wishes to the children.

The checkered flag fell recently for perhaps the family’s eldest member. Letha Shirley Linn died on April 21, 1998. She was born in Louisiana and then moved to Iowa after her marriage. Five children were born, one died as an infant and another at the age of seven years. As for descendants, she leaves behind 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Letha Linn was born before cars, planes and many things we take for granted. Just to put her age into perspective, she had already attained age 15 when the Titanic sank. Mrs. Linn was 101. Contents
